Geometry

Viking Head

Geometry
Geometry is an introduction to logic and critical thinking, as well as a foundational course in mathematics. In this course, we will build on the concepts learned in Algebra I and apply them to two- and three-dimensional figures. As part of this, we will also learn some of the basic concepts of logical analysis and how to apply them.

Grades in Geometry
Student grades are determined by the following formula:

Quizzes are graded by objective from 0 to 4. Students may retake any objective they wish to improve (until the end of the six weeks). Homework that is completed on time earns one point added onto the student’s six week average (up to 10 points).

Class Rules

  1. Treat other people and their property with respect.
  2. Do not speak when a teacher is speaking.
  3. Do what you are instructed to do when you are instructed to do it.
  4. No personal grooming.
  5. No throwing.
  6. No food or drink in class.

Progress reports will be sent to all students at the beginning of the fourth week of each six weeks.

The best way to be successful in this class is to attend regularly, complete homework assignments consistently, take notes, and participate in class. Students are responsible for their grades, but I will do all in my power to give them the tools they need to be successful.

Make-up Work
I give each student a calendar at the beginning of the six weeks with all of the assignments on it. Almost all of our assignments are out of the book, so if a student is absent, he should already know what he missed. Any handouts or assignments that he did miss, I will put in the “Make-up Work” folder for his class period. A student has as many days as he was absent to turn in any make-up work. It is the student’s responsibility to turn in any work missed and make arrangements for any tests or quizzes missed.

Advance notice will be given for tests. This means that even if a student is absent the day before the test, he is still expected to be ready for it when he returns.

Supply List
The following items are required for class and should be brought every day:

In addition, the following items would be useful, but are not required:

All work should be done in pencil. I will accept work done in pen, but I will deduct 5 points.

We will be doing most of our work in a spiral notebook, so the student must have one specifically for this class.

I am available to answer any questions that a parent should have, either by email (smiller5@aisd.net) or by phone through the school receptionist at 682-867-8300. If a parent wishes to meet with me, please contact the counseling office to set up an appointment. My conference period is from 9:15 to 10:30 on B-days, but I can also meet after school if necessary.
